This video features the use of nature as a defence against climate change. Planting mangroves can be a cost-effective way of reducing coastal erosion and flooding caused by rising sea levels. This way of using nature’s services to adapt to climate change is known as ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA). The project is also carrying out EbA activities in the deserts of Mauritania and the mountain forests of Nepal, and in the process, exchanging key EbA lessons between these three countries.
EbA South is a full-sized GEF project, funded through the Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF), implemented by UNEP and executed by the National Development and Reform Commission of China (NDRC), through the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGSNRR, CAS). UNEP-IEMP provides overall project management services and technical support, and fosters South-South linkages for the project.
