Coastal

Coastal ecosystems provide a range of essential ecosystem services, including food, protection, climate regulation and recreation. With 70% of the earth's surface covered by ocean and the majority of the world's populations living near the coast, proper management of coastal ecosystems is of vital importance. Coastal ecosystems are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, which exacerbate already occurring problems related to coastal development, including habitat loss and pollution. Sea level rise, extreme weather events and temperature changes that can alter ecological processes are posing severe threats to coastal communities. EbA interventions such as mangrove restoration buffer coastal landscapes from negative impacts such as floods and erosion.
