2nd International Conference on Biology and Development and 11th Maghreb Conference of Marine Sciences

Second International Conference on Biology and Development (Cibd18) and Eleventh Maghreb Conference of Marine Sciences were organised from 16 to 18 November 2018 in Nouakchott, Mauritania, by the Département de Biologie, Faculté des Sciences et Techniques of Université de Nouakchott Al Aasriya, in collaboration with the Maghreb Association of Marine Sciences.

Focus areas included natural resources, environmental protection, nutrition, health and the impact of climate change on biodiversity. In this context, students from the research unit Biodiversity and Promotion of Vegetal Resources (UBRV) involved in the Long-Term Research Programme of Maurtiania under EbA South project presented some of their work:

• diversity of mycorrhizal mushrooms associated with woody species in Mauritanian arid environments and effects of inoculation on Ziziphus lotus (L) and A. radiana subsp raddiana;

• contribution to the eco-physiological behaviour of four local species present at Benichab and study of the effects of mycorrhizal inoculation on the growth of Ziziphus lotus (L) Lam. and Ziziphus mauritiana (Lam.); and

• effects of mycorrhizal inoculation on the growth of Ziziphus lotus (L) under water stress conditions.

The various research projects aim to improve the hydro-mineral nutrition of plant growing in arid environments with degraded soils and poor nutritious content. More details can be found in the research posters attached.
