South-South Cooperation (SSC) is emerging as a new dimension of international cooperation on climate change, complementing the traditional North-South cooperation. SSC covers multiple functions, such as technology transfer, capacity building, knowledge sharing, policy support and fund raising.

South-South cooperation on climate change has a focus on adaptation, which is most urgently needed in developing countries. As developing countries are more dependent on ecosystems and the services they provide, Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) is emerging as one of the key pillars of this new approach.

EbA South has been identified as one of the flagship initiatives for South-South cooperation on climate change jointly developed and supported by UNEP and China, as part of their mutual commitment to assist countries in the global South adapt to climate change.
