EbA implementation in Dryland ecosystem

On-the-ground mangrove EbA desertification control measures including multi-use greenbelts have been implemented in Benichab, Idini and other Trarza sites following the well-developed site-specific protocols, within a long-term research framework.

Under a MoU between Minisrtry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD) and Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS) signed in 2016, the long-term research programmes (LTRP) had been employed for measuring the short- and long-term effects (ecological, hydrological and socio-economic) of the EbA interventions being applied within the project. Being led by the professors and students from the École Normale Supérieure de Nouakchott (ENS Nouakchott), the achievements of LTRP includes the establishment of a permanent monitoring site at Benichab Sub-site 1A, a greenhouse at ENS for botany experiments, and research findings in the form of research reports, theses and peer-reviewed papers with support from international experts.
